In 2021, I had the incredible opportunity to witness the wildebeest migration in Tanzania, one of the most spectacular wildlife events on the planet. From the vast herds crossing the Mara River to the predators lurking in the shadows, the experience was truly unforgettable. I am thrilled to be able to share that experience with you with these images.
The wildebeest migration in Tanzania is an annual event where over two million wildebeest, along with zebras and gazelles, migrate from the Serengeti National Park to the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya and back. The migration is driven by the search for fresh grazing pastures and water as they follow the rains. This journey covers a distance of over 1,800 miles and is one of the largest and most awe-inspiring natural spectacles on Earth.
During the Mara river crossing in Tanzania, wildebeest and zebras form a symbiotic relationship where the zebras, being stronger swimmers, lead the way across the river, while the wildebeest follow closely behind. This partnership increases their chances of survival against the crocodiles and other predators lurking in the river.
